About Andrew Heath

Born 1962. After a standard education I completed a foundation course at Nottingham and moved to Sheffield to study for a fine art painting degree graduating with a first BA hons. in 1985 (or 1905?).

First post-art school work was collaborative and in mixed media, some of which was exhibited here and across the Atlantic. By 1989, I had returned with a reinvigorated interest to painting and specifically oil on canvas. From a home studio I started to produce a series of paintings, concentrating on the human figure and pattern. This work has been exhibited in solo and group shows in galleries, theatres and other spaces.

Having worked on private commissions from miniatures to murals, I started in 1997 to work in Education and Public Arts on large scale murals and painting projects. With this expansion in scale of both the work and materials, I moved to a new light and spacious studio at Yorkshire Artspace Society in 2001 when the purpose built Persistence Works opened. Since the move I have increased the amount of commissioned work for public spaces and of participation work in schools, concentrating on murals and mosaics. This work is large, energetic and fast, in contrast to my studio work which is increasingly contemplative and requires time.

My studio painting continues to follow its initial direction and new developments are reflected in the recent body of work.
